I was working on a new image for a print and since I haven’t had the time to cut the block yet, I decided to make a wallpaper so that I could at least see it. I hope you enjoy it. I’m making it available in iPad and mythical iPad 3 sizes as well.

SOPA/PIPA Blackout

The site is back after a hiatus for the SOPA/PIPA blackout protest. I redesigned the site the day before the blackout went down, and now you can view the redesign in all of its glory, including the store which is powered by Storenvy.

In case you’re wondering, the image that is the current main image on the home page—F*** Censorship—wasn’t done for the blackout specifically but it was done when Congress was originally talking about SOPA at the end of 2011. It came in handy. It’s also free to post anywhere. All that I ask is that you copy it to your own server and you don’t modify it other than resizing.

New work

There’s some new work in the motion section on my site. I’ve had some reel requests and I realized that I had a bit of good work sitting around from this year and I haven’t had the time to make a 2012 reel yet.

The Achieva spots (Dream Home and Dreamobile) were completed at Tampa Digital and aired in nearby St. Petersburg and the rest of Pinellas County.

The Spots for Bright House (VOD Commercial, HSD 2995, My Services, and Combo Mix) aired in a few locations nationally.

I was listening to Matt Paxton’s podcast, 5 Decisions Away—which I highly recommend—and I emailed him about something they were talking about. He replied almost immediately. Matt told me he liked my animation and he sent me a link to this video. It’s amazing—so amazing in fact that I looked up a behind the scenes video and sent that over to Matt to ensure our mutual procrastination was successful. Enjoy.

Jack Daniel’s – As American As

Agency Arnold Worldwide hit it out of the park when they selected Prettybird as their production company. Director Max Malkin shot an amazing spot for that script. The guy playing the chord on the guitar after that staccato intro is just perfect. Beautiful cinematography, excellent color, awesome sound design, and brilliant copywriting all combine to dramatic effect punctuated by the iconic Jack Daniel’s bottle.

In case you’re wondering, that awesome track comes from an awesome musician—Gary Clark, Jr..

Heineken Light – The Handlebar Mustache

While I’m not a fan of Heineken’s taste, this ad is great. It plays up all of the things that hipsters would find awesome, yet it does so without making you hate it simply because it reminds you of hipsters. The cinematography is trick and the atmosphere is great. The copy is good, and there’s just enough humor. Check it out:

Lightning Playoff Desktop

Those of you who know me, know I’m a huge hockey fan. So, in honor of my team reaching the Eastern Conference Finals (Go BOLTS!) I’ve decided to make a new desktop.

The last time I made a Lightning desktop was in 2008, and I worked at the company who did the graphics package for the entire arena. My desktop design actually was one of the official designs available until the recent logo change. My creative director saw it on my desktop and we ended up sending it off to the Lightning who took it and made a square version. Though I was on another project at the time, I also contributed a lightning bolt which my friend Javi added to the opening. I had to say that because, well, I’m such a big fan that that was a huge deal to me.

Anyway, I’ve been using their official logo desktop for a bit, and I thought it needed to reflect the playoff attitude a bit more. Unfortunately I no longer have access to official logos, so I went ahead and made my own vector of the new logo. Luckily it’s much cleaner (and way nicer) than the older logos so it was pretty simple. And then I made this version, which I’m making available to you guys. Enjoy!

Busy

I’ve been busy working on some cool projects at Tampa Digital for the past month, and I’ll be there through the first week of May. That would be the reason that I haven’t been updating this site recently. Fear not, faithful followers (all two of you), at the end of this booking, I’ll be back with some new original artwork to share. I’ve got a few things planned for the summer, so stick around!

New Photos

In case you wonder where this guy (me) has been, here’s some photographic evidence of his travels. Yep, I went back up into the mountains again. We tried to hike up to the top of Mount LeConte twice, and we still managed to run out of time to reach the summit and return before nightfall. Actually, we ended up walking the last half mile on both trails in the dark. This picture was taken at a waterfall just before Rainbow Falls, in case you were wondering.

I also put up photos from a recent hike around Weedon Island which is in a completely different location in the country. It’s also a much quicker drive from Tampa. And there’s a lot less of an elevation change over the course of the hike.
